Farm Schools in Africa

Junior Farmer Field and Life School (JFFLS) is an innovative program sponsored by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Food Program (WFP) that teaches orphans in Africa farming and life skills. A response to the AIDS crisis, the program now operates in 11 countries. In Africa it is estimated that there are over 40 million orphans, with 11.4 million being directly impacted by AIDS. These schools are necessary to ensure that farming skills are passed on to the next generation, which is vital to avoid a food security disaster. The FAO manual is available free to children who attend these schools. Please click here to access the article on JFFLS.
