Beyond the 'Plenty' Model of Food Production
Timothy Lang in a recent address to a scientific body discussed the current productionist paradigm of agricultural production and pronounced it as "coming unstuck." This energy intensive mode of production is having a serious impact on water availibility in many parts of the world and a devastating impact on biodiversity. A rising world population and the uncertain, but negative effects of climate change require the world to come up with a different way. Lang's proposes the development of a unified approach to food production, supply and consumption that takes into account all the above factors and others into consideration. Lang's provocative thoughts should be considered as a way toward a more sustainable and responsible food system. Please click here to access the article.
