Brazil's Battle Against Hunger

In a visit to Toronto, Canada in June 2008, the Brazilian Minister for Social Development and Fight against Hunger, Patrus Ananias, recognized the limitations of Brazil's "Zero Hunger" strategy in forging structural changes in the country. He reiterated, however, the sense of urgency that underlies policies and programs in his ministry, emphasizing that the main goal of "Zero Hunger" is to achieve the first Millennium Development Goal of reducing extreme poverty and malnutrition.
