Thoughts on a New Way for the USDA

One piece of advice that Mark Winne gives to the new Secretary of Agriculture is to create an Office for Community Food Systems. Winne's suggestion of caring for the natural resource base and promoting sustainable agriculture makes environmental sense. Redeveloping every region's food infrastructure is a futher part of the sensible equation he proposes. So-called good food is available to anyone if you have the dollars to pay for it. The author of "Closing the Food Gap: Resetting the Table in the Land of Plenty" knows that's not good enough and changes need to be made so that the food system becomes more just.
