Samoa after the Tsunami

The recent tsunami in Samoa had a drastic and immediate impact on food security. Subsistence agriculture is an important feature of the economy. Home gardens and household livestock were wiped out in parts of the country. Damage from salt water that travelled over a kilometre inland will effect agriculture in the short term. With agriculture accounting for roughly 90 percent of Samoa's exports, the effects of this natural disaster on the economy will be felt heavily for years to come.
